The conceptions of development of the first and second cycle of Brazilian developmentalism

The article reflects on the place and role of the Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social (BNDES) in Brazilian development and brings a historical rescue on the Brazilian state, the power blocks, Brazilian society and ideals that guided public policies and defined state space strategies and projects. The text proposes a theoretical and historical contextualization about what is known as Brazilian developmentalism, the development ideologies that prevailed in the first developmental cycle, which extends from the 1930s to the mid-1960s, and the predominant conceptions of development in the second Brazilian developmental cycle, which covers the 21 years of dictatorial governments.
